Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was among the best-received movies of its type. It nailed the setting, the writing was pretty good, and the cast seemed to know what they were doing with Faerun characters. Speaking of the writing, it was actually so good that it spawned numerous memorable scenes that became part of the broader pop culture and probably brought a lot of eyes to D&D in general. But a sequel, though already written, will probably never happen. According to Screen Rant, Honor Among Thieves co-creator Jonathan Goldstein said that, due to “a number of financial reasons,” the sequel will probably never come out. We were hired to write it,” Goldsetin revealed. “I don’t know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons. They’re expensive movies to make, but it’d be great fun to do it. We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like.” The movie was a box office failure since it launched between some of the biggest movies of 2023, i.e., John Wick 4 (go see it, it’s genuinely as close to perfect as possible) and the box office giant The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Furthermore, Screen Rant writes that the movie’s co-creators, Goldstein and John Francis Daley, were in talks with Paramount about a potential sequel or spinoff, but that “budget cuts” needed to be made for the project to get greenlit.
