Kerala PWD to begin project works only after land acquisition, says Minister - The HinduPublished - July 28, 2026 08:08 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAMThe Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to commence public works projects only after completing all mandatory procedures, including land acquisition. No public works project will be taken up henceforth without fulfilling all statutory requirements, including land acquisition, Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer has said.Addressing a meeting of PWD officials convened to review the progress of public works in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts, the Minister said there had been a practice of initiating the tendering process for various projects without obtaining all the required permissions. This practice would no longer be allowed, he said.Officials had often been compelled to launch projects before the completion of land acquisition due to various factors, including pressure from different quarters. As a result, several projects have remained incomplete, causing significant financial losses to the government and hardship to the public.The Minister also directed officials to visit project sites often and gain first-hand information of the progress and issues related to public works. He also assured full support to honest and dedicated officials in the department.Published - July 28, 2026 08:08 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
