DG Prisons reviews lake restoration, prison industries and proposed ITI at Cherlapalli - The HinduPublished - July 28, 2026 07:36 pm IST - HYDERABADDirector General of Prisons and Correctional Services Soumya Mishra on Tuesday reviewed a series of infrastructure, environmental and rehabilitation initiatives in Cherlapalli, including the ongoing lake restoration project, prison industries, and the proposed Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) inside the central prison.During her visit, DG Mishra inspected the Cherlapalli Lake Restoration Project, being taken up by the Prisons Department in collaboration with HYDRAA with financial assistance from Indian Oil Corporation Limited under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. She reviewed the progress of the restoration works and directed officials to install solar lighting at dark stretches along the walking track to improve safety and accessibility.She also visited the Prisoners’ Agricultural Colony (PAC), where she reviewed the development of Swami Vivekananda Vanam and inspected the proposed site for a new multipurpose hall.At the Central Prison, Cherlapalli, the officer inspected various prison industries and production units and interacted with inmates engaged in vocational activities. She encouraged prisoners to continue developing their skills, stating that vocational training plays a key role in rehabilitation and reintegration into society.The Director General also reviewed the progress of the proposed Government ITI within the prison premises, which is intended to provide inmates with industry-oriented technical training and nationally recognised certifications to improve their employability after release.Harichandana Dasari, Secretary, Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department, along with senior officials from the Industries and Factories departments, participated in the inspection and reviewed preparations for operationalising the institute.Senior prison officials, including Inspector General of Prisons N. Muralibabu, Deputy Inspector General D. Srinivas, Central Prison Superintendent G. Pramod and PAC Superintendent D.
