Apple products are famously expensive, and they're only getting pricier. The ongoing memory crisis has only put pressure on companies like Apple to raise prices, which could dissuade users from upgrading their current devices, or switching platforms entirely. When you need to continue growing your business, it's not a good position to be. Perhaps that's why Apple is inviting you to skip buying its products altogether. While you can pay full price for any of its products, the company is now rolling out "Apple Upgrade," a new program that lets you lease a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch. Apple Upgrade is a partnership with Klarna, the company best known for its "buy now, pay later" model. Only this time, you're not buying anything.How does Apple Upgrade work?Leasing from Apple Upgrade doesn't seem dissimilar from leasing any other product. The company offers 12 and 24-month leasing plans for iPhone and Apple Watch, and 24 and 36-month leasing plans for Mac and iPad. Pricing depends on the product and specification, but Apple says you can lease products starting at: $11.99 per month for Apple Watch$11.99 per month for iPad$17.99 per month for iPhone$24.99 per month for MacThese prices can also go lower if you have an eligible device to trade in at the time of leasing. In addition, you can earn back 3% Daily Cash if you use an Apple Card to set up your lease. When you decide to apply for the program, you can do so either online or in person at an Apple Store. Klarna will perform a soft credit check, which Apple says won't affect your credit score. You'll also track all your payments and billing schedules in the Klarna app.Once your lease term is up, you have three options: Upgrade to the latest version of the device; buy it with a one-time payment; or return the device and exit Apple Upgrade. What happens to the iPhone Upgrade Program?Apple is ending the iPhone Upgrade Program and iPhone Payments and replacing it with Apple Upgrade. As such, if you're currently enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program, you can lease a new device with Apple Upgrade, finance your device with Apple Card Monthly Installments, buy the iPhone, or move to your carrier for financing.
