It wasn't Ryan Moore or William Buick's name next to the winner of the Qatar Goodwood Festival's first black-type race of the week, but the little-known Kaiya Fraser as he steered Dr Rascal (Sottsass) to success in the G2 Vintage Stakes.Two-for-two entering this seven-furlong test, Charlie and Julia Rosier's homebred was always travelling strongly tracking the leaders early. Sent up a narrow gap on the far rail approaching the furlong pole, the 13-2 shot subdued Ballydoyle's Haffner (Justify) soon after for a half-length success with the 5-4 favourite Al Hudaiba (Dark Angel) a short head away in third.“It's a great day and I'm very happy to get the job done for Charlie and Julia Rosier–this means everything,” Fraser said. “It's what we wake up for every morning.”The winner hails from the famous Whatcombe stable of Oliver Cole, whose father Paul was once a big name at Glorious Goodwood and had trained the winner of this three times. “He's a very good horse and I have a lot of faith in him, so I wasn't that nervous beforehand,” the trainer said. “Kaiya is a very capable jockey and he was very relaxed before the race. We haven't used him that much, but you're in safe hands with him.”“He's a very fast horse, classy and pretty uncomplicated and we'd done stalls work at home because he got loose before his last race at Ascot. We'll give him a bit of a break now and we'll probably look at the Dewhurst, that's his ultimate target.
