Edited Press ReleaseUnder the direction of HISA National Medical Director Dr. Pete Hester, the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) has launched a nutrition program designed to address the high-performance needs of jockeys.HISA brought together nutrition experts, jockeys and racetrack hospitality professionals for the HISA Nutrition Task Force. This group has developed a practical nutrition program that has been implemented at Keeneland, Santa Anita Park and Parx Racing, with additional racetracks continuing to onboard. Santa Anita Park also recently unveiled its new Jockey Diner and nutrition-focused menu, developed with guidance from the HISA Nutrition Task Force.“Jockeys face some of the most demanding physical and nutritional challenges in professional sport,” said HISA CEO Lisa Lazarus. “This initiative is about giving them access to food that supports performance, recovery and long-term health, while respecting the realities of weight management. Providing clear nutritional information alongside thoughtfully designed meals empowers jockeys to make informed choices that work for their bodies and careers.”Menus include detailed nutritional information, including calories, protein and fat content, to help jockeys better understand their dietary needs and make informed choices. The program is designed to complement, rather than replace, existing racetrack food offerings, giving jockeys additional options based on their individual needs and preferences.Building on the efforts of HISA Jockey Wellness Consultant Trevor McCarthy and Syracuse University Athletics Director of Performance Nutrition Alyson Onyon, HISA and Jockeys' Guild have also partnered on the roll-out of fueling stations that provide convenient and healthy food and hydration options for jockeys between races. Saratoga Race Course and Belmont Park debuted the first two fueling stations, with additional locations planned. The full HISA Nutrition Task Force brings together jockeys and experts in sports nutrition and medicine. Members include:Donna Barton Brothers, retired jockey and former NBC Sports analyst; Aaron Gryder, retired jockey and Senior Vice President at 1/ST Racing; Jeff Johnston, HISA Rider Safety & Welfare Manager; Dr. Brenda McBride, Chief Medical Officer and Director of Nutrition at Onrise, Trevor McCarthy, HISA Jockey Wellness Consultant; Alyson Onyon, Director of Performance Nutrition at Syracuse University and Jockeys' Guild consultantMarc Thierren, Keeneland's Managing Director of Hospitality; and Jodie Vella-Gregory, Vice President of Industry Relations for 1/ST Racing. To further support the program's implementation, HISA and experts from the HISA Nutrition Task Force hosted a webinar on nutrition for jockeys, track management and racetrack kitchen staff. A copy of the webinar is available upon request. This nutrition initiative builds on HISA's announcement last October that it had expanded its wellness program to include nutrition coaching for jockeys through its partnership with Onrise, which provides a suite of confidential wellness services to licensed jockeys at HISA racetracks. Led by Dr. McBride, whose extensive expertise in nutrition, athletic performance and psychology has shaped the program, Onrise's nutrition coaching is designed to help riders optimize both their performance and well-being.For more information or to access services, riders can contact Onrise confidentially through their website, by emailing support@onrisecare.com or by calling its toll-free crisis line at (833) 998-7985.The post HISA Expands Nutrition and Hydration Resources For Jockeys appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
