FGF Giveaway: MechanicalKeyboards.com #3 - Mechanical Keyboard, Keyboard Kits, Mouse & More!

Wait 5 sec.

This event is for supported regions only - https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/pages/mks-ship-to-country-list (Some include duties at delivery, please see list.) Feel free to provide a friend's address if you like/can. Additional note: Some regions might require additional payment for products even when duties are paid by the company (in this case MK). "...because I can mark [items] as a gift and select DDP (delivery duties paid), although other problems may come up...It's random regions and carriers." Those in regions that for whatever reason decide to do this will have to pay for that on their own. Please keep this in mind as it was a complication in the last giveaway. REVIEW To give a personal feel to this giveaway, MK sent me a Ducky Tinker (75), MK x Ducky Frozen Llama Cherry Keycaps & MK Holy Llama Switches! Looking to try something I haven't before, I ended up honing in on Ducky. Ended up being a Ducky x MK kind of set with the Frozen Llama series of stuff. Quite the animal theme. Here is a video of me unboxing, building, and reviewing it all on the FGF YouTube channel - https://youtu.be/qW0Pg94UNG0 TLDW: The Ducky Tinker (ProjectD) is my first Ducky keyboard. It's a pretty great option! It's priced relatively competitively when it comes to barebones kits. I think it might be Ducky's first series like that? Unsure. Anyways the board uses plastic for its shell and can end up being a downgrade to those that have grown accustomed to heavier metallic ones. It's a hotswappable QMK/VIA compatible board which is always nice and easy to work with. Even included pre-applied stabilizers. LEDs too if that's your thing. Also has adjustable feet if you need extra support there. Building on it felt good! I didn't crack it fully open to investigate it further (wish I thought of that at the time) but I had no issues using the board and was happy with it! Solid experience with easy customization. Has all the keys I'd need thanks to it being a 75%. Looks good too! The Frozen Llama keycaps are a collab product from MK and Ducky, which ended up being the perfect pairing here. Frozen Llama is a product line MK had done that really resonates with a winter-y vibe. I love that! There were two options for FL keycaps, so I chose the Cherry profile ones. They're triple shot so very little concern about fading. I didn't notice at the time that it has an additional legend on the keys. Think it's Chinese. Not an issue, just something I missed when looking originally. The keycaps feel great and I appreciate the extra accent key choices. No issues with print or anything. Great set! The final thing to bring up here is the key switches. I ended up with MK Holy Llama Tactile key switches. Looking back, I made a bit of a mistake there. I definitely prefer linear switches now, but these are certainly nice too. I like the sound of them, but they're obviously a good bit more audible than the linear counterpart. They definitely got a good feel! Funny enough I actually had one of the linear switches from the Llama lineup. It was an add-on in my package from the first ever FGF x MK event. I used that in the board and love the feel of it for sure. If I could do it over again, I would easily pick the linear "Purple Slush" switches instead. Both are 5-pin and were fine to install. I found a couple in my bag that needed the pins re-aligned. Not uncommon, but it did feel like I noticed it a little more than usual. In conclusion, I was pretty happy with the build and board! It's a solid price-competitive (in terms of barebones and Ducky at least) kit that supports good features. If you're cool with plastic, then this ProjectD is great! The keycaps are lovely! I love the look and feel. Those are a bit pricier than I would've expected originally, but they're fantastic for sure. I prefer the linear switch option over the tactile one that I ended up using with this board, but overall the switches I used feel and sound great! Very happy with the finished product.
