I’ve spent years building fictional worlds. This month, I turned them into an independent publishing network.

Hey Reddit! I'm Jonathan LaBelle, an independent author and founder of Electric Icarus Publishing and the Electric Icarus Project. For years, I've been developing books, fictional worlds, philosophical frameworks, and experiments in storytelling. Recently, I started bringing these projects together into an actual publishing schedule, with original serialized fiction, editorial publications, educational material, and audiobook production. Rather than just announcing the project, I thought I'd share some of what's actually live. 🎭 Neon Theater — Four Worlds, Four Original Serials Each series has its own identity, genre, characters, and narrative direction. 1. Bingo Space Jumper #5 — Sci-Fi / Absurdist Adventure One ticket. Infinite destinations. Absolutely no refunds. An unfortunate space traveler, an experimental Bingo Pod, and a universe that seems determined to make everything unnecessarily complicated. Read Episode 001 2. The Quantum Conundrum — Sci-Fi Mystery / Paranormal Absurdism Dr. Elias Locke receives an invoice for his own death, followed by a visitor who looks exactly like him. Reality is relative. Competence is optional. Read Episode 001 3. Survive: Neon Slumlight — CyberGrit / Dark Sci-Fi An industrial survival spectacle where syndicates control the entertainment, the participants fight to stay alive, and a mysterious Fog threatens considerably more than the contestants. Read Episode 001 4. Golden Buck Cult — Noir Western / Mystery Mysterious gold coins erase millions in debt. A covert hunt begins. An organization operating beyond ordinary financial rules wants to know who owes whom. Read Episode 001 📚 Nova Academy — Free Education I've also begun developing a free educational initiative exploring reasoning, systems, knowledge, and inquiry. The first five lessons have been introduced, with a larger educational vision developing around them. Explore Nova Academy ⚡ Neon Pulses — Culture, Technology & Creative Commentary Neon Pulses is a separate editorial publication examining the intersections of art, technology, institutions, creative ownership, and culture. Recent examples: Neon Pulse 009 — Who Gets to Explain the Museum? Aster's Desk 011 — Chris Thile and the Art of Crossing Genres 📰 The Electric Icarus Flyer & Dr. Elias Locke We also publish daily satirical news commentary and original absurdist short fiction. The Electric Icarus Flyer — The Public Record Is Buffering Everyday with Dr. Elias Locke — The Bureau of Minor Corrections What's next? Audiobook editions are also moving through production and submission, alongside continuing work on books and additional storytelling projects. I'm experimenting with AI-assisted creative and publishing workflows while maintaining authorship, editorial direction, and continuity across projects that began long before these tools were available. The larger challenge isn't simply producing more material. It's developing a sustainable, coherent creative ecosystem without sacrificing the individual identity of each story. I'm still building it. Still experimenting. Still learning. I'd genuinely appreciate feedback, particularly from readers interested in independent science fiction, experimental publishing, serialized storytelling, or the future of creative production. Which project catches your attention? And for other independent creators, how do you manage multiple creative outlets without letting everything become one indistinguishable brand?
