A woman posted on TikTok to warn others to pay attention to their surroundings after saying she was shopping at Walmart when she noticed a man following her in the store. However, after workers showed her the security footage, she realized the extent of his alleged stalking, as she said the man was seen crouching behind objects and even waited outside in the parking lot for her. The woman, who goes by “@katiechik” on TikTok, said she was shopping for shoes for her daughter in her local Walmart when she noticed a man in the women’s clothing section who she claimed kept walking by and looking at her. According to Katie, her Walmart is laid out so that the men’s clothing is on the other side of the store. Katie claimed that the man seemed to be circling her. She then moved to a different part of the store and noticed the man again. According to her, the man appeared to be following her everywhere she went in Walmart, “and he’s not trying to hide it.” Eventually, the man’s alleged stalking got so bad that Katie felt she had to tell Walmart staff, as she believed he was going to wait for her outside. She claims the staff took her into an office so she could identify him. When she looked at the CCTV footage, she realized “it was actually worse than I thought.” Katie claimed that the footage showed the man hiding in places around the store as he allegedly tried to stealthily follow her. At one point, she says he lost track of her and appeared to be frantically looking for her. However, she claimed the worst part was that the footage apparently showed him waiting in his car outside the Walmart for over ten minutes. Katie claimed Walmart staff took the situation seriously According to Katie, the staff took her accusation seriously, which she said she was thankful for. “They believed me, and were very much zero-tolerance,” she said. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 5 women have experienced stalking in the US, with roughly three-quarters of stalking victims reporting that they were watched, followed, or spied on during their lifetime. Others on TikTok have shared their experiences with being followed in public spaces. Last month, a woman claimed that she was followed by a man and a woman in a grocery store. In Katie’s case, she claimed that nothing happened after the Walmart staff intervened.
