Retrospective cohort: after implementation of Heidi (ambient AI scribe), BIDMC researchers found an association of high use of Heidi with lower median note-active time (21 minutes → 18 minutes) and higher median number of characters per note (4,854 → 5,18

MedPage Today Annals of Internal Medicine and the accompanying editorial ___ Interpretation The study authors did not actually check for hallucinations/errors/omissions nor the time spent editing notes in Heidi before transferring them to the EHR (presumably EPIC used by BIDMC). They also could not quantify how many patients refused AI scribing nor reliably differentiate between AI-generated and clinician-written notes. With an absolute difference of -2.4 minutes per note opened in the EHR, over a 20-patient day, this would be about -48 minutes per clinic day on average. With an absolute difference of +333 characters before and after Heidi implementation (and presuming 5-6 characters per letter with spaces included), this roughly translates to 55-70 additional words per note. There was no significant difference in the number of days with all notes signed by the end of the day nor the RVUs produced. submitted by /u/ddx-me [link] [comments]
