Starting my final nursing preceptorship next week and I’m terrified. Any advice?

Wait 5 sec.

I’m a fourth-semester ADN student graduating this December, and I just found out I’ll be doing my final preceptorship on a day shift unit at a hospital I’d really love to work at after graduation. I’m excited but also extremely nervous. I’ve never worked as a CNA or PCT, so my only patient care experience has been through nursing school clinicals. I’m especially worried about getting a preceptor who might be intimidating or frustrated with having a student. I really want to be helpful instead of feeling like I’m slowing them down. There’s also the possibility of getting hired into their new-grad program, which makes me feel like I really need to make a good impression. For nurses who have precepted students, what makes a student stand out in a good way? What are your biggest pet peeves? And for students who have already completed their preceptorships, what do you wish you’d known before starting? Any advice is appreciated! submitted by /u/First-Masterpiece-91 [link] [comments]
