An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred after midnight on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 12:30 a.m. local time near Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, India, as reported by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS).According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones because they are closer to the surface. The magnitude and other quake parameters may still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which also listed the quake at magnitude 3.6. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6.Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but it was probably felt by many people as a light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
