Hi everyone, I'm trying to create a 3D-printable wall mount for a Wyze camera, similar to the organic, curved design shown in the attached picture. I'm looking for an AI-powered or automated workflow that can generate a 3D model directly from a reference image, rather than manually modeling the entire part in CAD software. Ideally, I'd like to: Upload a reference image. Have AI reconstruct a similar 3D shape, including the smooth organic curves and hollow support structure. Specify or adjust dimensions, mounting holes, wall thickness, and other mechanical features. Export the model as STL for 3D printing or STEP for further editing in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or FreeCAD. I've looked into text-to-CAD and image-to-3D tools, but I'm not sure which ones can produce accurate, functional mechanical parts rather than just visual 3D meshes. I'm particularly interested in: - AI tools that generate CAD geometry directly from images. - Tools that support organic shapes and smooth curved surfaces. - Image-to-STL or image-to-STEP workflows. - Free or open-source solutions, if available. - AI-generated CAD scripts, such as CadQuery or OpenSCAD. - Methods that require minimal manual remodeling. I understand that a single image may not provide enough information for an accurate model, especially for hidden geometry and dimensions. I'm fine with supplying additional measurements or adjusting the final design. Has anyone successfully used AI to create a functional, 3D-printable mechanical part from a reference image? What tools or workflows would you recommend? I'm especially interested in real-world examples where the final result could be edited in CAD and physically 3D printed. Thanks! submitted by /u/superhero_io to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]
