Hi there, I realised the first thing I do when I open a video on YouTube is to press on the loading bar at around 30%, trying to skip the boring intros, the usual backstory or the "but first" in videos like the typical "I tried X for 30 days". A lot of these videos make you wait for the result on purpose to stretch the video and keep you watching until the very end, and it gets annoying. Same with list videos where the YouTuber says "stay until number 10, this one is the best!", and of course it's always the last one... So I made this. It adds a button to the YouTube player. When you click it (or press G), it tries to skip to where the video actually gets to the point. Click again or press G again right after to go back. It doesn't do magic, though. It looks for clues in the video, like the chapters, the auto captions, timestamps people leave in the comments and the SponsorBlock highlights, and uses those to guess where the good part starts. It doesn't use AI to find the spot, but just those clues. When it's not sure, it just doesn't show the button. Especially when there's nothing to skip, either because the video is actually good and goes straight to the point without clickbait or fake waiting, or because it couldn't find anything useful to go on. That being said, sometimes it will still jump to the wrong spot, so bear in mind it's not perfect. It works best on the challenges, reviews and "X vs Y" kind of videos. On music or vlogs, it usually shouldn't show up. In my personal tests, it did quite well, with some misses here and there, but it is definitely useful! I'm using it every day. The extension is free with a daily limit: first you get 20 jumps when you install it, and after that you get 3 jumps per day. There's a one-time $9 payment to unlock unlimited skipping, and that's it. Here is the link: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/okcngcmkmneokdgpndfnhlclbkhoklbl If it jumps somewhere dumb on a video, let me know which one, I'm still improving it. Any thoughts are welcome! Also, I made a quick website for it: https://jump-to-the-point.web.app/ The funny part is that you can also skip the fluff in it and get to the point ;) submitted by /u/Paker93 [link] [comments]
