frustrating having a partner not in healthcare sometimes

Wait 5 sec.

today i had a near miss at work which left me really stressed out coming off a night shift. luckily, i’m blessed to have lots of close friends that are also nurses who i can vent to, get second opinions, and comfort since they know what it’s like to have an overwhelming shift. i personally enjoy/don’t mind having a partner who’s not in the same profession as me but it gets frustrating at times when i tell him about a very stressful day and he doesn’t seem to understand the severity of it. i know it’s unfair to think he’d understand because he’s not a nurse, but isn’t it kind of common sense to know that being responsible for someone’s life as a career can be pretty overwhelming? i’m not trying to sound selfish but sometimes i don’t feel properly comforted and i’m not sure what i’m looking for when i go to him for consolation. i’m really not trying to be praised as if i’m a hero, but it’s hard just getting a: “oh i’m sorry you had a bad day.. yeah that does seem pretty stressful :/“ as a response. just looking for insight from other nurses who date someone in a completely different field and how to kind of navigate this without feeling unreasonable :) submitted by /u/misokitten [link] [comments]
