My nursing and communication confidence is kinda shook

Wait 5 sec.

I recently went into leadership after 16 years of being on the floor. I was always curious as to why decisions are being made without the input of nurses, so I went back to school to get my masters in health admin. Male nurse here, and honestly I love nursing. I appreciate the start of my career being trained by old school nurses and psw’s. It was ingrained in me to have teamwork and just do the damn job… Long story short, I got a leaderships position for a new facility. My god, within a fucking year I get these dumb complaint about me tapping a colleague shoulder and damn nursing joke. Next thing you know, I get a letter that paints a picture of a womanizing monster. These accusations shock me because these people have been friendly towards me the entire time. Plus the administration gave me no heads up or feedback. Now I am leaving that facility. I feel like the administer threw me under the bus because I was holding people accountable to do their job which is keep clients safe and work together. I had never had these accusations before. The last facility I worked at was beautiful but this new one, talk about toxic. I kept my mouth shut when I was screamed at, staff telling me no, and laughing behind my back about it. I barely written anyone up but the administrator said I was writing everyone up, which is not true, 4/120 employees is not everyone. There was no support and now I am trying my best to not let this experience ruin me. I am scared of going to another job and dealing with the same bullshit because I don’t want to change my friendly helpful personality. I do nursing/communication by the book but I also bend it because everyone has a different process but same safe outcome. I moved away for this job and my kids are enjoying it here so I have to stay for them because I don’t want to move them again. I am hurt, sad and angry from all this, I worked hard to keep my reputation intact. I love being a nurse and team player. Like a part of me feels like it’s not safe for men at some facilities because of all these trauma responsive behaviours. There so much more to this bullshit life learning experience but I don’t want this one time horrible experience to ruin me and I don’t know if I want to go back to leadership. But man the hours were so much better compared to shift work. Any advice to overcome a false accusation? Also, if you did do something that hurt a colleague’s feelings, what did you do to not do it again? Any advice from a male nursing leadership and how to lead a floor full of female healthcare professionals? submitted by /u/Time-Particular272 [link] [comments]
