Investigators accused Lorin Scicluna of lying and attempting to cover up his involvement in the murder of Lassana Cisse as jurors heard details from his police interrogation.Scicluna, a 29-year-old former soldier, is currently standing trial over the 6th April 2019 murder of 42-year-old Ivorian national Lassana Cisse in Ħal Far. He has pleaded not guilty and is also charged with the attempted murder of three other migrants.During the ongoing trial, jurors heard how investigators challenged Scicluna over changes made to his Toyota Starlet after the murder.“You made a mistake, you realised you made a mistake, and now you’re trying to cover it up. You’re making things worse, Lorin. Listen to me. You’re lying,” an investigator told him during questioning.“The sticker was put on after the murder. Is that a coincidence?” the investigator asked.Police had traced a white Toyota Starlet using CCTV footage, identifying distinctive features including mismatched headlight brightness and missing number plates. Later footage showed a vehicle registered to Scicluna with a side mirror, stickers and additional stripes that had not previously been there. Contemporary trial reporting has also said police found black tape and stickers allegedly used to modify the vehicle at Scicluna’s home.“You were there. So much so that you modified the car afterwards,” the investigator told Scicluna.“I wasn’t there,” Scicluna maintained.Assistant Commissioner Keith Arnaud told jurors that Scicluna initially denied involvement but began changing his account after investigators confronted him with what they knew about the car. According to Arnaud, Scicluna at one point claimed he had lent the vehicle to somebody else. The court later heard that Scicluna eventually told investigators he had modified the car after hearing media reports that police were looking for a white Toyota Starlet. The trial, presided over by Judge Natasha Galea Sciberras, is continuing. Scicluna denies the charges against him.•
