Artist Antoine Paul Camilleri is turning his long-held fascination with St John’s Co-Cathedral into a new exhibition opening in Floriana this November.Titled Baroque Visions, the exhibition brings together 10 pyrography works and 10 pen drawings inspired by the interior of the Valletta landmark.During summer 2025, Camilleri was given access to areas of the Co-Cathedral beyond those normally open to the public, spending Tuesday and Thursday mornings studying and recording its intricate architecture and decorative details. For Camilleri, drawing is the starting point of his creative process, often leading into other media including painting, watercolour, batik and sculpture. The pyrography pieces see lines carefully burned into wood, with gold, bronze, copper and other metallic tones used to echo the richness of the Co-Cathedral’s Baroque interior while still allowing the natural grain of the wood to remain visible. The exhibition also includes a ceramic sculpture of Grand Master Manuel Pinto da Fonseca, created as an experiment that could shape future work.Curated by Melanie Erixon, with Chrisallo Borg as assistant curator, Baroque Visions will run from 5th to 27th November at Bizzilla Art Space in Floriana. The exhibition will be open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm.•
