Want to cure your plant blindness? Want to get better at recognizing the birds you see on your commute? Want a preview of the wildlife you'll see on your next vacation? I made KnowKi because I think caring for our more-than-human kin starts with recognizing them. It works a bit like Duolingo, but you learn the wild species around you instead of a language: Set your home area and choose a group (birds, plants, insects, mammals, fish, and more). KnowKi builds a path from the species most often recorded near you, using research-grade photos from iNaturalist. Short lessons: meet species, match them to new photos, then practice. Species come back on a spaced schedule until you can recognize them in different photos on different days. Once you know them well, they become your "kin." The Daily: five photos each day, easy to hard, in three editions: your neighborhood, your country, and the world. You can share your score with friends. Trips: learn the wildlife of 600+ national parks (Yosemite to the Serengeti), any country, or marine protected areas before you go. Identification tips from iNaturalist's community, where they've written them, so you learn what to look for and how to tell look-alikes apart. It's free, with no ads, no account required, and nothing to unlock. All credit to the iNaturalist staff and community for creating the platform and observations that make KnowKi possible. Web iOS It's a solo project, built over the last couple of months. I'd love any feedback from folks who give it a try! submitted by /u/Naive_Gazelle9643 [link] [comments]
