I switch between macOS and a 1440p Windows desktop (150% DPI scaling) every day, and I kept missing having a tiny, glanceable top pill for media controls, quick Pomodoro timers, and background alerts without running heavy Electron widgets. So I built dynamic-island-win in Python. A few technical details I focused on getting right on Windows: - Per-monitor DPI scaling (100% to 200%) so moving across displays or 1440p/4K panels stays crisp without blurry Win32 bitmap stretching. - Native Windows Media (SMTC) + Spotify HUD with live playback controls and track progress. - Built-in Pomodoro focus timer, weather glance, and custom alert hooks. - Lightweight footprint (~18 MB RAM idle, zero telemetry, no background browser engine). Repo & source code (MIT): https://github.com/RanuK12/dynamic-island-win Would love feedback from anyone running multi-monitor or ultrawide Windows setups on any edge cases with fullscreen apps or taskbar auto-hide! submitted by /u/Nasty_Dev_12 [link] [comments]
