Sega Amusements has revealed more details and a new video showcasing House of the Dead: Reawakened, a new VR game coming soon to arcades.Sega Amusements has unveiled a new video, screenshots, brochure, and sales page for their upcoming VR arcade game House of the Dead Reawakened, giving us our first clear look at the game cabinet, VR headset, and (at least a glimpse of) gameplay. 0:00 /0:30 1× House of the Dead Reawakened is a two-player arcade horror experience with a "terrifying gothic cabinet." The cabinet is themed like a decrepit manor, with two 43" vertical displays forming the manor's side windows, and a massive 85" display serving as the front door. While players play in their VR headset, the displays show the action happening on screen to arcade-goers and passersby. The game has been developed in Unreal Engine 5 and uses DPVR E4C commercial-grade VR headsets. The guns feature haptic feedback and recoil. Much of this information is included in the game's sales brochure:House of the Dead Reawakened follows in the footsteps of the original The House of the Dead, which was first released in arcades in 1997 and then ported to Sega's then-current home console, Sega Saturn, in 1998.Numerous mainline releases have followed in arcades, with standalone games and ports appearing on a wide range of home game consoles since. The series has also enjoyed several spin-offs, and at least one (fairly terrible) movie. A new film is currently being developed. The most recent all-new release in the series was 2018's arcade shooter The House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn, which was a more traditional arcade shooter that did not feature VR tech.House of the Dead Reawakened makes its global debut at the arcade and amusement park trade show IAAPA Orlando in mid-November. A release date has not been confirmed yet, but it seems likely that these zombies will be haunting arcades in 2027.
