D.J. Stable's homebred superstar Nitrogen (f, 4, Medaglia d'Oro–Tiffany Case, by Uncle Mo), the 3-5 choice to cap her stellar year with a win in the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff Saturday, did exactly that following a second in this race during her championship 3-year-old campaign last year.Biding her time in third as last year's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies champ Super Corredora (Gun Runner) showed the way through :23.57 and :47.04 splits, Nitrogen pounced off the turn as 3-2 second-choice Fully Subscribed (Tiz the Law) pulled nearly on even terms, then turned on the afterburners, drifting out while wide but holding sway to win convincingly by about three lengths. Fully Subscribed, who altered course to the inside when Nitrogen drifted out, ran her heart out to finish second, while Measure (Essential Quality) outfinished Super Corredora for third.Nitrogen got the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.90. Her most recent campaign has included a last-out win in the GII Beldame Stakes, as well as a blowout victory in the GI Ogden Phipps Stakes, and an excellent second against the boys to reigning Horse of the Year Sovereignty (Into Mischief) in the GI Whitney Stakes.O/B-D.J.
