built a free mac system monitor because my macbook kept heating up and i wanted to know why

Wait 5 sec.

my m5 Pro would randomly spin up the fans and i never knew what caused it. activity monitor doesn’t show temps or fan rpm, and the apps that do were either paid or felt bloated, so i made my own. MacResMon shows cpu/gpu temps, rpm per fan, power draw, battery, disk, network and the top processes, plus a menu bar readout and alerts when things get too hot. stack ended up being a native swift shell with a react ui inside a WKWebView. no electron, the whole app is about 3.5 MB. sensor data comes from macmon so it needs no sudo. one thing i still haven’t figured out: the webview process slowly grows in memory while the window stays open. if anyone has fought this before i’m all ears. free, MIT, apple silicon only: https://github.com/proars/MacResMon next step is a signed dmg so people don’t have to build it from source. what would you add? submitted by /u/arsm2016 [link] [comments]
