Hey Big A, question for you first so you can skip the rest if you don't wanna read it: I've grown really burned out in the last year or so at my current job and would love to find something new but I've had little luck pursuing anything related to my degree and I'm really worried about the current job market. I'm lucky to live in an area of the US cheap enough that $19/hr covers all my cost of living and I'd probably be taking a pay loss if I jumped to a different entry level position, plus a risk of no full time since I keep hearing how hard those positions can be to get these days. Do you think it'd be too risky to jump ship when I have very stable, good enough employment right now? I also just wanted to give some words of encouragement to those who are doomer about the idea of voting if you're in a deep red state. I've voted blue my entire life, and while on paper that looks like it'd do nothing given Missouri is a deeply entrenched red state, if you look at policy which is arguably much more important for your day to day life, this state is actually quite "purple". We've had abortion pass on the ballots once already, the government found some convenient loophole to get rid of it and now it's back again, looking likely to pass again, we got a second amendment pushed that will make it much much harder for them to pull some shit like this again. As well Missouri has a relatively high minimum wage by red state standards, unions are still pretty prominent here, and we've slowly but surely been voting for more and more worker protections (many of which they keep trying to overturn but still). We also legalized weed quite early on. It's undeniably a fight and you won't win everything on the first try but the only way you'll ever see change is if you go out there campaign for it and vote! If this state can do it yours can too! submitted by /u/jasonfails237 to r/atrioc [link] [comments]
