‘Another Budget, The Same Problems’: Alex Borg Reacts To Budget 2027

Opposition Leader Alex Borg has criticised Budget 2027, arguing that it fails to address some of the everyday problems facing Maltese and Gozitan families, workers and businesses.“Tomorrow morning, workers will once again be stuck in traffic. Families will once again be adding up the costs in front of supermarket shelves. And young people saving to buy their own home will still be wondering how much longer they have to wait,” Borg said. While saying the PN welcomes measures supporting workers and families, Borg argued that people should also expect less time spent in traffic, shorter healthcare waiting lists and more affordable housing. He also said the government must explain when pressure on infrastructure and public services will ease, pointing to housing, roads, hospitals, schools, water and energy supplies.Borg further argued that businesses need more support to invest in technology, train employees and improve wages, saying that higher tariffs alone would not make Malta’s economy more productive. The PN said it will continue analysing the Budget based on how the measures affect people’s disposable income, time with their families and confidence in the future.Borg was accompanied by Shadow Finance Minister Adrian Delia and Shadow Minister for the Economy, Technology and Capital Projects Darren Carabott during his initial reaction.•
