One of the quietest pistols of the Vietnam era had a trick that had nothing to do with the suppressor: the slide could be locked shut, so the action did not make a sound. It was nicknamed the Hush Puppy, and the idea has mostly lived in history books and collector displays. Shark Coast Tactical has now put it on a modern carry pistol and named the result the Shark Puppy. The build starts with a Glock 43X MOS, finished in rugged FDE or Black finish, with a black Zaffiri Precision threaded barrel. The 3.9-inch barrel carries 1/2x28 threads for the JK Armament CCX 9, a modular suppressor with customizable length and sound suppression in a lightweight, user-serviceable package. For sighting, there is a Holosun 407K red dot, which suits the G43X's slim footprint, and Angry Bear Sights. The star is the officially licensed Hush Puppy slide lock system, pictured below on the slide. It is designed to completely silence the slide action for discreet suppressed shooting, which makes the G43X a quieter pistol than a suppressor alone can manage. The package is rounded out with a pistol range bag (the model may vary) and an SCT patch. The pistol is a 9mm with a 10+1 capacity and uses Glock’s standard trigger. Overall length is 6.5 inches and weight is 18.7 ounces. Colors offered are black and FDE, as shown here. FDE is the clear choice if I can have my say. The Shark Puppy costs $1,499. It is a custom build made to order, so expect a lead time of six to eight weeks.
