Harry Kane was crowned the best footballer in the world on Monday evening, but few Tottenham supporters would have been surprised to see their former striker lift the Ballon d’Or.The 33-year-old became the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001, beating Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal after an outstanding season with Bayern Munich.Kane scored a staggering 73 goals for club and country during the 2025/26 campaign, a tally bettered in a single season only by Lionel Messi in 2012. But he certainly did not suddenly become a world-class footballer after his move to Germany.Monday’s ceremony might not have had much to do with Tottenham Hotspur, but that did not stop plenty of Spurs supporters staying up to watch their club’s academy graduate and all-time record goalscorer finally receive the recognition he deserves.Tottenham fans know the classic line all too well: “If only Kane hadn’t wasted half his career at Spurs, he’d be far more recognized today!” There is, unfortunately, some truth to that. That is because, it took a move to a European heavyweight for many people to truly appreciate what Spurs supporters had known and seen for years – Kane was doing things in a Tottenham shirt that were far from ordinary. The England captain has continued to improve since leaving North London in the summer of 2023, but we had already witnessed one of the finest players of his generation produce some extraordinary performances across his 435 appearances for Spurs. From unforgettable North London derbies to nights when he tore apart the best teams in Europe, here are five of his greatest individual displays in a Tottenham shirt.Photo by SpursWeb5. Tottenham 2-1 Arsenal – February 2015The 2014/15 season was when a 21-year-old Kane first began to establish himself in the Tottenham first team, finishing the campaign with 31 goals in all competitions. It was also the season the Spurs academy graduate experienced his first North London derby, and he could hardly have asked for a better introduction.Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal took the lead through a Mesut Ozil volley in the 11th minute, threatening to spoil the occasion at White Hart Lane. However, Kane equalised from close range in the 56th minute, but he was not finished there. With just four minutes remaining, the striker sent the home crowd into delirium, rising to meet Nabil Bentaleb’s cross and powering a towering, looping header into the net to complete a 2-1 comeback victory. It was the sort of performance that announced Kane as more than just another promising academy graduate. His ability to deliver on the biggest occasions caught the attention of then England manager Roy Hodgson who was in attendance for the game, and later handed him his international debut the following month.Today, Kane captains his country and holds England’s all-time goalscoring and appearances record.4. Tottenham 3-1 Borussia Dortmund – September 2017Tottenham had endured a difficult start to life at Wembley while White Hart Lane was being redeveloped. The club struggled to settle into their temporary home, and it took until September for them to secure their first win there of the season. The opposition was Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, and Kane made sure the occasion was memorable. After Son Heung-min had opened the scoring, Dortmund equalised through Andriy Yarmolenko. Kane restored Tottenham’s lead in the 15th minute with a powerful run and a superb near-post finish, curling the ball beyond the goalkeeper. He then added a second after the break, finding the bottom corner with another composed finish to seal a 3-1 victory. It was a statement performance on the European stage.3. Leicester City 1-6 Tottenham – May 2017Tottenham’s 6-1 demolition of reigning Premier League champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium remains one of the most remarkable performances of Harry Kane’s Spurs career. The result also matched the joint-heaviest defeat ever suffered by a reigning Premier League champion, but the afternoon was a special one for Kane, who scored four times. His haul took him to 26 Premier League goals for the season and sent him to the top of the Golden Boot race. He would finish the campaign with 29 league goals after scoring another hat-trick on the final day, securing the award for the second consecutive season. The four-goal display was also Kane’s fourth hat-trick of 2017, showing just how devastating he had become in front of goal. He was not merely a reliable finisher anymore; he was capable of taking over an entire match almost single-handedly.Kane also became only the fifth player in Premier League history to score at least 25 goals in consecutive seasons, joining an elite group featuring Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Robbie Fowler and Robin van Persie.Credit: @shooting.practice on Instagram2. Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea – January 2015An all-time Premier League classic, this fixture serves as the perfect advertisement for the English league even to this day – one that also announced Kane’s arrival as a genuine star.Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea arrived at White Hart Lane as one of the division’s strongest sides, but Kane produced a performance that tore apart their defensive organisation, blew the title race wide open and gave Spurs supporters a night to remember.Diego Costa opened the scoring for the visitors, only for Kane to equalise with a superb low strike from outside the penalty area. The young forward then played his part in Danny Rose’s goal before winning the penalty that Andros Townsend converted.Harry Kane was not done there. Early in the second half, he turned sharply inside the box and finished past Thibaut Courtois to score his second of the afternoon. He also set up Nacer Chadli for Tottenham’s fifth goal, completing a remarkable individual performance against the side that would go on to win the Premier League title that season. The result also marked the first time a team managed by Mourinho had conceded five goals in a Premier League match.1. Manchester City 2-3 Tottenham – February 2022Harry Kane has produced some extraordinary performances since moving to Munich, but his display for Tottenham against Manchester City in February 2022 arguably remains the finest of his career. It is also up there with one of the best individual performances of the Premier League era.Pep Guardiola’s side were flying at the top of the table and arrived at the Etihad Stadium on the back of a 15-game unbeaten run. Tottenham, meanwhile, had lost three consecutive league matches and were desperately searching for a response under Antonio Conte.Kane delivered one in spectacular fashion. The striker played a crucial role in Tottenham’s opener, starting the move with a brilliant long pass from midfield to Son Heung-min, who set up Dejan Kulusevski to score. That kind of distribution would later become a major feature of his game in Germany, but we had already seen what he could do when dropping deeper and picking out teammates with extraordinary precision. He then put Spurs back in front after City had equalised, finishing clinically from Son’s cross.Riyad Mahrez appeared to rescue a point for City via a penalty in the 90th minute, but Kane had one final moment of magic left. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, he rose to meet Kulusevski’s cross and powered a dramatic header into the net to seal a 3-2 victory. It was a complete centre-forward performance against one of the strongest sides in Europe, delivered at a time when Tottenham desperately needed it.Antonio Conte’s Spurs completed a league double over Guardiola’s City that season, and this victory was the perfect example of their counter-attacking threat. And Kane was the star of the show.READ MORE: 10 records Harry Kane still holds at Tottenham Hotspur, they may never be broken – Spurs WebThe post Harry Kane’s five greatest Tottenham performances after his historic Ballon d’Or win appeared first on Spurs Web.
