Building a family archive that cannot sell the family.

Wait 5 sec.

I am building DearestEllie, a private-by-default archive for a whole life story, with family contributors and a steward who approves every entry. The trust rules are constraints, not marketing: private by default, no ads ever, no selling family data, full export free anytime in an open format, and no archive disappears because a family cannot pay. The hard part: those promises cost money (storage, originals, exports) while ruling out the usual revenue levers. The current answer is supporters and sponsors, kept separate from the archive. For those running a privacy-first product: which trust promise was hardest to keep once real costs showed up? submitted by /u/sneakoo [link] [comments]
