Sinkhole at Kolathur due to Chennai Metro Rail’s tunnelling work - The HinduPublished - November 01, 2026 12:42 am IST - CHENNAIAn autorickshaw partly fell into a sink hole at Srinivasa Nagar in Kolathur due to Chennai Metro Rail’s tunnelling work for the phase II project on Saturday night. According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), around 8.30 p.m., a stationary autorickshaw partially slipped in as a sink hole occurred. Since the driver was not inside the autorickshaw, no one was injured in the incident.Tunnelling work has been under way in this location to build an underground network as part of corridor 5 (Madhavaram to Sholinganallur via Kolathur) for the Phase II project.“The workers poured concrete and have carried out repair work at the location. This could have happened due to settlement from the tunnelling work,” an official said.
