That was certainly his most notable contribution as he played at right-back again today. Gray was eventually subbed off at the break, likely due to some kind of injury. 7.Jan Paul van Hecke – A solid all-round display from the centre-back, who spent most of the first half in the Palace half, often operating as a midfielder when Spurs had Palace pinned in their box. The pattern continued into the second half, before the former Brighton man eventually got the all-important second for Spurs, heading home from close range. 8.Micky van de Ven – It was Jean-Philippe Mateta’s reckless challenge on him, studs to the Achilles, that got the Frenchman sent off. He was key in both halves as Spurs looked to camp in the Palace half after Mateta’s sending off. His recovery pace helped stifle any Palace breaks, with the Dutchman forced into a few interventions in the second half. 7.Andy Robertson – In the first half, the full-back was a lot more offensive, often taking up positions high in attack and looking to overlap or underlap Tel. He did look to create from those positions with his trademark first-time delivery and could have had an assist had his cross made its way to Marmoush. In the second half, he had to pick his moments to join the attack and had a pretty good chance to be through on goal after a nice link-up with Marmoush, but his touch let him down. 7.Mateus Fernandes – He started the second half with real intent and could well have grabbed the second of the night after firing a low, driven volley from inside the box, but his effort was deflected away. He had one other sight of goal from long range, but it was blocked. The Portuguese was aggressive, often looking to win the ball back high up the pitch as quickly as possible to help Spurs maintain pressure. His performance was not dissimilar to his first-half showing, where he balanced his defensive and attacking duties superbly. 8.Sandro Tonali – He was brilliant in the first 45 for Spurs, showing for the ball when Spurs looked to build up while also offering cover for his full-backs whenever they were caught out of possession. In the second half, he looked to join the attack a lot more, often making runs into the box. 7.5.Omar Marmoush – His off-the-ball work before the break was impressive, with Marmoush often closing his man down whenever Spurs lost possession. In the second half, Spurs looked to up the tempo as they searched for a second, and the forward did see a bit of the ball, although not in threatening positions. 6.Mohammed Kudus – He was one of Spurs’ better players in the first half, proving a handful for the Palace defence with his dribbling and trickery in possession. He provided the assist for the opener with a wonderful corner to the back post, which was met by Gray. In the second half, he picked up where he left off, this time linking well with Porro on the right as Spurs looked to make their advantage count. He had a glorious chance to make it three after he was found by Luca Williams-Barnett, but he fired wide. 8.Dominic Solanke – After a quiet first 45 in which he failed to hit the target, Solanke came close to doubling Spurs’ lead in the second half, swivelling after receiving a fizzed Porro pass in the area, only for his attempt to be saved by Dean Henderson. 6.Mathys Tel – After a pretty solid first half in which he looked lively in possession, Tel started the second half where he left off, getting into a good shooting position after the restart, but his effort was blocked. For most of the second half, he proved to be an outlet on the left, often staying high and wide to stretch play. 7.SubstitutesPedro Porro – Replaced Gray in the second half and went in at right-back, where he looked lively, linking well with Kudus while also looking to create chances from deep. 7.Conor Gallagher – Came on for Solanke and went in at number ten, while Marmoush played as the striker for a spell. He eventually had a chance from inside the box, but his effort was saved. 6.Destiny Udogie – Replaced Robertson and went in at left-back for the final 15 minutes of the match. N/A.Dejan Kulusevski – Came on for Marmoush and played as a striker, having a few touches of the ball. This marks his third appearance from the bench since his return from his long spell out. He came close to a goal, drawing a fine save from Henderson in the closing stages. N/A.Luca Williams-Barnett – Replaced Tel in the final five minutes for his Premier League debut, playing off the left. In the few minutes he was on, he showed what he is about, twisting and turning past two Palace defenders before putting it on a plate for Kudus, but the wide forward missed what was a tap-in.
