Upgraded to a PS5 Pro to jailbreak - my experience

Wait 5 sec.

I was debating for a couple of weeks whether to upgrade to a pro from my fat 10.2, mostly for the upgraded graphics as I have a 4k tv. I came across a deal for a pro fw 13.2 so I thought why not. My 10.2 setup is so stable with bdjb, almost never have a kernel panic, have fpkgs, almost every game is backported, life was great with the fat. I ended up using it for a week, and unfortunately I had a number of niggles: Y2jb was as stable as bdjb only IF you do install an M2 SSD. If you do, then the console constantly gives errors when launching, and generally I noticed more KPs from rest mode etc. Unfortunately doing some research this issue has existed for a year already, and given most people don't have pros it's not really a priority for the Devs. For me this was very annoying as I had a 2tb M2 and wanted to use it, if you don't plan to use a M2 then your experience will be smoother. Performance: I tested witcher 3, hzd, dragonwilds, cyberpunk, mafia and Wolverine. The performance difference as so so small, mostly because the games do not have a pssr2 update. If the game does not have a pssr2 update, then the performance is small, if they do, e.g. wolverine it's a better but honestly not by a significant margin. I also tested PS3/switch emulation and there was no difference at all. I guess because it's CPU bound. Unfortunately I think a pro is a much better value proposition if you plan to keep it up to date. Because then you will have the latest game updates, where more games will have pssr2 upgrades. The stability is also a little worse as most devs have non pros and they use different chips so there is just a few more niggles. As I came from a stable fat, it felt like a big step back for me. Anyway Ive seen a lot of posts asking if it's worth it to upgrade and my advice is no, not yet, unless you want to leave it up to date in which case I'd say definitely. submitted by /u/Longjumping_Ad2215 [link] [comments]
