This might be a “water is wet” type of post for some but here’s some perspective as a journalist with almost a decade’s worth of experience covering daily and investigative news for a mainstream outlet in North America. I was listening to CVV’s most recent interview with Cody Rhodes and couldn’t help but notice how Cody appeared to be trying to come off as media savvy and self-aware by continuing to bring up when he thought the CVV show would “clip” something. Each time Cody said this it was with a sort of negative connotation as if a clip is inherently bad or negative. And each time CVV would try to explain why they use clips. Cody also said he leaves most interviews angry (but not CVV’s). I think it’s a sign even the most well-spoken and high-profile stars need better media training (and probably training from actual journalists). I think they’re all used to being in the overly produced WWE environment (where they have 100% control). CVV is basically the most wrestler-friendly, PR-friendly interview you can get. The most critical interview I’ve ever seen him do in his podcast was Meltzer and the star rating system. It should be blatantly obvious to any wrestler on his show that he is basically doing PR for you and his objective is to just hear from you (ideally he doesn’t want a political answer or kayfabe, but he’ll still tolerate it if you give him it). Just because something is in a short-form, clip format doesn’t mean it’s inherently bad. The content of the piece of media matters more than the format of it. Sure, sometimes the timing of when a clip is posted could be suspect, etc. — but just because something is a short clip, doesn’t mean it’s bad. And to imply CVV is trying to make you look bad by using clips is actually just plain stupid. CVV doesn’t benefit from that at all because, at this point, it’s not his brand. And a tip for Cody or any other interviewee — bringing up when you think something is going to get “clipped” doesn’t make you sound smart or cool or media savvy. It’s a reminder to listeners you’re hyper vigilant to the fact you’re being recorded and ruining the illusion that you’re answering authentically. submitted by /u/t-h-e_w-a-t-c-h-e-r [link] [comments]
