Keeneland rolled out the red carpet for Juddmonte's classy multiple Group 1 winner Blue Bolt (Ire) (Blue Point {Ire}) in the 1 3/16 $2-million GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, but it was not to be as the even-money favorite didn't crack the top five, with 5-1 chance Kathynmarissa (American Pharoah) coming over the top for the win. The final time for the distance was 1:53.75 over the firm turf. The Michael Dubb and Michael Caruso-owned runner defeated late stretch leader 10-1 Gimme A Nother (SAf) (Gimmethegreenlight {Aus}) by about a length after taking the lead six strides before the wire. It was left to 26-1 longshot Jancis (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) to be the first European home in third for trainer Willie McCreery, with European ex-pat and 40-1 shot Expensive Queen (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) fourth for Brendan Walsh.Bluebolt, sweating heavily before the break and fractious in the stalls, raced in a wide third last through the first turn and onto the backstretch. Niggled at by Colin Keane to improve on the final bend, Blue Bolt did not display her customary acceleration and she trailed home in 11th in the 12-horse field. It was trainer Chad Brown's fifth Filly & Mare Turf victory and 20th win overall. Jockey Jose Ortiz, forced to miss much of Breeders' Cup Friday after falling at the start of Keeneland's fifth race, was winning his seventh lifetime Breeders' Cup race and first Filly & Mare Turf. The Japanese-based 2015 Triple Crown Winner American Pharoah sired his second Breeders' Cup winner with Kathynmarissa after Four Wheel Drive, who also stands in Japan, won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.Kathynmarissa was coming off consecutive wins in the GI Diana Stakes at Saratoga in July and in the GII Flower Bowl Stakes at Belmont earlier this month.Sales history: $200,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP.
