Most tides & current apps are ugly copies of the free data tables you can download from tidal authorities. And they require data connections to deliver their predictions. But the problem is all math you can run on a phone that predicts when the sun and the moon will affect the local waters. We built a tides & currents app that's beautiful and works offline https://slackwater.xyz/ Offline makes it faster and safer whether you're out on the water or planning to go. All the data is built from our open source project: https://openwaters.io/ https://openwaters.io/tides/ https://openwaters.io/sky/ While it seems like Open Source is changing given everyone can build anything they want by copying something else. I still think its worth putting the libraries I've built out there for reuse. The app itself is open source too under a GPL license where the libraries are all MIT license. Slackwater is iOS only right now but we are starting to build out the Android version over the next couple weeks. The website has a link to the google group you can join for updates on Android; it's only information about testing and the app itself. direct app store link: https://apps.apple.com/app/slackwater-tides-current/id6813654837 submitted by /u/clarkbw [link] [comments]
