Disney fans have been asking for another American theme park destination for years, and a new story circulating on social media has given them plenty to talk about. The proposed development would bring an enormous Disney resort to a surprising location, complete with multiple theme parks, hotels, and entertainment offerings on a scale that could rival that of Walt Disney World. For families living hundreds of miles from Florida or California, the possibility of another Disney destination closer to home certainly sounds appealing. However, as the story spread across Facebook and other social media platforms, questions began emerging about whether this ambitious development was actually happening. Now, the truth behind the viral announcement has come to light. An Enormous New Resort Makes HeadlinesRecently, a story circulating online claimed that Disney was preparing to construct a massive new resort in Cincinnati, Ohio. The supposed development, called “Disneyland Ohio,” promised an entertainment destination unlike anything Disney currently operates in the United States.Mouse Trap News claims included over 30 resort hotels, 100 pickleball courts, and an entire theme park dedicated to Marvel characters.Other details surrounding the supposed project were even more ambitious. The original story described a $100 billion development covering approximately 50,000 acres, with five separate theme parks, five golf courses, and enough attractions to make the property potentially larger than Walt Disney World. The fictional announcement even speculated that the resort could open around 2035.A Facebook video helped spread the claims, prompting Disney fans to search for additional information about the proposed resort. After all, Disney building another American theme park would represent an enormous development for the entertainment industry.Unfortunately, there was a major problem with the announcement.Credit: DisneyThe Truth Finally Comes OutDespite the excitement surrounding Disneyland Ohio, the entire story originated from Mouse Trap News, a website known for publishing satirical Disney stories. In other words, the supposed Ohio resort isn’t happening.Disney has not announced plans to construct a theme park in Cincinnati or anywhere else in Ohio. The website responsible for the original story openly identifies its content as fictional, meaning the ambitious development was never an authentic Disney proposal. However, the plans have been addressed by other news outlets, which have confirmed that the claims were false. However, Disney does have another major theme park destination officially in development. In May 2025, The Walt Disney Company announced plans for a new Disney resort on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The project will become Disney’s seventh theme park resort destination worldwide, with Disney collaborating with Miral on its development.Unlike the Ohio rumor, Disney has publicly confirmed the Abu Dhabi project.Still, the conversation surrounding Disneyland Ohio raises another question that Disney fans have been asking for years.Credit: DisneyAnother American Expansion Is Still PossibleAlthough Ohio isn’t getting a Disney resort, Walt Disney World could eventually welcome an entirely new theme park. The possibility of a fifth gate at the Florida destination has circulated for years, especially as the existing four parks continue attracting enormous crowds. In 2024, Disney received approval for a long-term development agreement that allows significant expansion across its Central Florida property. The agreement provides room for another major theme park, although Disney has not officially announced plans to build one. That distinction matters.Having permission to construct a fifth gate doesn’t necessarily mean Disney intends to begin construction anytime soon. The company would still need to determine the park’s theme, location, attractions, infrastructure, and overall investment. And considering everything Disney already has underway, another massive Florida development might not be the company’s immediate priority.Credit: Brandi Alexandra, UnsplashDisney Has Bigger Plans Already UnderwayWalt Disney World is currently investing heavily in its four existing theme parks, with several enormous construction projects scheduled to transform the resort.Magic Kingdom is preparing for one of its biggest expansion projects, including Piston Peak National Park, inspired by Cars (2006), and a new Villains Land.Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also undergoing a significant transformation with Monstropolis, a new area inspired by Monsters, Inc. (2001).Meanwhile, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is developing Tropical Americas, which will introduce attractions inspired by Encanto (2021) and Indiana Jones.EPCOT has also received substantial investments in recent years, including new attractions and redesigned areas. These developments require enormous financial commitments, extensive construction work, and years of planning. With Disney already investing heavily in its existing parks, it seems unlikely that another multibillion-dollar theme park project will begin within the next couple of years.Of course, Disney could always surprise fans with an unexpected announcement. However, based on the company’s current construction schedule, finishing its existing Florida expansions appears to be the more realistic priority.Credit: DisneyWhat Happens Next? For now, Disneyland Ohio remains nothing more than a viral hoax, and Disney has not announced another American theme park destination. The company’s confirmed new resort project in Abu Dhabi is moving forward, while Walt Disney World continues to prepare major additions to its existing parks.A fifth Florida theme park remains possible, especially now that Disney has received permission for additional development. However, fans probably shouldn’t expect another enormous American Disney resort within the next couple of years.Disney already has plenty of construction underway, and completing those projects will likely take priority over building an entirely new theme park. For now, the dream of Disneyland Ohio will have to remain exactly that: a dream. The post “Disneyland Ohio” Goes Viral: Massive New Disney Theme Park Plan Exposed appeared first on Inside the Magic.
