I walked away from my hospital job two years ago after major burnout, for a job at an inpatient hospice facility which I’m still working at now. At first I loved my job there, but the nights are killing me following some health issues (days are not available for me anytime soon). My health, along with some changes at the job (management, staffing, filling hospice beds with med- surg etc) are just burning out. To be honest, I am just exhausted. The truth is, I don’t know what I want to do next, but I can’t do any job until I get my physical and mental health back. I know I can take medical leave, but I really want like a year sabbatical. My fear is finding a job, if I return to nursing following this with a long stretch of unemployment.
