For my completed webcomic (1.500 Pages) Don't Die! — A Webcomic about an life/death escape game (introtuced some days ago in webtoons subreddit), I created an artificial game world with enormous environments for the characters to explore. Some locations are large enough to feel like entire cities or landscapes in their own right. One of them is Central City, a fictional urban area surrounded by mountains. As the characters move through the city, they encounter its streets, buildings and landmarks from different viewpoints. Keeping all these locations geographically consistent became a challenge of its own. I never built a complete 3D model of the city. Instead, I used existing drawings as references for new scenes, transferring architectural details, perspective cues and spatial relationships from one view to another. Sometimes, figuring out how everything fits together is almost as challenging as drawing the scene itself! The images show several views of Central City, including an example of how I used existing drawings as references to construct another viewpoint. The final image is a color collage of Central City Port, another part of the same game world. Some drawings are made in color fpr presentation reasons but appear in black/white in the comic. To distinguish the several gaming areas more easy for the readers, each level gets its own color tone from greenish, reddisch or bluish. So the reader can better see, where the story is currently taking place (at least I hope so).
