Chicago PRN/registry RNs — what's your hourly rate? Prepping for a rate review

Wait 5 sec.

Hi all! I'm an RN (BSN, about 5 years of experience) doing registry/PRN float pool at a hospital in Chicago, mostly peds. I switched from staff to registry this summer for grad school, and I have a meeting with my manager this week to go over my rate. My registry rate is $45/hr, and from what I can tell it hasn't changed since at least 2023. I lost tuition reimbursement, a clinical ladder bonus, and most of my PTO when I switched, so my math says I'd need around $48–50 just to break even with staying on staff. It's been hard to find posted PRN rates, so I'd love to hear from anyone in the Chicago area: What's your PRN/registry/float pool rate, and at what kind of hospital (academic, community, peds, rehab)? How many years of experience do you have? Have you ever negotiated your PRN rate up, or is it a flat rate for everyone where you work? Any numbers, even rough ranges, would really help. Thank you! submitted by /u/Offgrid25 [link] [comments]
