Got tired of LG webOS ads, so I gave my OLED C3 a new personality using Claude and GitHub 😂📺

Wait 5 sec.

My LG OLED C3 is fantastic: beautiful picture, perfect OLED blacks, and a webOS home screen that makes it feel like I bought a 55-inch advertising billboard. 💀 I wasn’t planning to replace it, so I started exploring how much I could customize it. After digging through open-source GitHub projects, using LG’s free Developer Mode, and having far too many conversations with Claude, I built Ambient Home 🌄—a custom home screen for LG webOS. So far, I’ve experimented with: ● 🌅 A living lakeside background with real-time sunrise, sunset, and moon phases ● 🌧️ Rain, snow, thunderstorms, and seasonal weather effects ● 🎮 Animated app icons and HDMI shortcuts ● 🏠 Opening the custom screen with the remote’s Home button ● 🌙 An OLED-friendly floating clock ● 🚫 Escaping LG’s cluttered home screen without rooting the TV No root or custom firmware—just a developer account, existing open-source work, Claude, and curiosity. Disclaimer: I’m not claiming to have invented a new webOS hack. Ambient Home builds on existing projects, especially Clean Your TV for LG webOS, with Claude helping me assemble and customize the experience. It’s still a prototype: Developer Mode expires, some dashboard sections are demos, and it doesn’t remove ads inside streaming apps. Still, it’s been a fun experiment. GitHub: https://github.com/Chandra-K-Pendyala/ambient-home What would you add if your TV’s home screen were completely customizable? A retro gaming dashboard? Sci-fi spaceship controls? A minimalist Apple TV-style layout? A virtual aquarium? Something nobody has thought of? I’d also love feedback from anyone experienced with webOS, especially on performance, reliability, and keeping Developer Mode applications running. Check out the repo, suggest features, criticize the approach, or roast the code. I’m learning as I go. LG made the hardware. The open-source community and Claude helped me make the home screen my own. 😂 submitted by /u/AlternativeInjury587 [link] [comments]
