I'm an MLOps engineer, and keeping up with AI news was eating an hour every morning — twenty tabs, half of them rewriting the same press release. So I built a thing for myself: pull ~30 sources (labs, arXiv, tech press), run every story through a pipeline that writes a 3-sentence brief, and swipe through them like cards. It's been on Android since spring and on iOS since September. The interesting lessons weren't technical: Dedup is the whole product. 30 sources means the same story 8 times. The cross-source clustering (title similarity + time window) is what makes the feed feel curated instead of spammy. I spent more time on that than on the summarizer. People don't want "all AI news." They want their slice. Adding interest selection (models / funding / robotics / research) and ranking the feed by it was the single change that made people come back. Push notifications are retention, but only if you're ruthless. I cap it at a few a day, only for high-signal stories, and respect quiet hours. The moment it feels like spam, people kill notifications at the OS level and never come back. App Store review was harder than the app. Four rejections, including "minimum functionality" because Apple initially read it as an aggregator. Original summaries + personalization + account deletion got it through. It's free, ad-supported, no paywall. Small user base, so if you try it, your feedback actually changes the roadmap. iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6794633949 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aibrief24.app submitted by /u/Few-Donkey9538 [link] [comments]
