Malta’s beloved educational magazine Sagħtar has paid a touching tribute to the late Professor Ġorġ Mallia, featuring a colourful illustration of him on the cover of its latest issue. The October 2026 edition, issue 403, marks the beginning of Sagħtar’s 2026–2027 season and places Mallia front and centre, alongside illustrations celebrating the magazine’s comics and characters. The cover carries the words “Tislima Ġorġ Malia (1951–2026)”, honouring a man who played an important role in shaping the publication over more than five decades.Mallia passed away earlier this year, with Fondazzjoni Sagħtar paying tribute to him in August and describing him as one of the magazine’s earliest pioneers. His connection to Sagħtar began in 1971, when he was still a secondary school student. Over the years, he contributed through writing, illustrations and comics, and served as co-editor for many years. The foundation previously recalled how Mallia remained immensely proud of his involvement with the magazine, having witnessed its journey from the very first issue through to issue 402.Now, the publication’s 403rd issue serves as a fitting tribute to his legacy, ensuring his contribution to generations of Maltese readers is remembered.Did you grow up reading Sagħtar?•
