Anderlecht's all-time Belgian top-flight points lead over Club Brugge is down to 145, the smallest it's been since 1963

Wait 5 sec.

Got curious how long Anderlecht can hang on to top spot in the all-time table, so I added up all top-flight points since 1895. Right now it's Anderlecht 4,810 and Brugge 4,665. Gap is 145 points. Ten years ago the gap was 310. Brugge have outscored them in 8 of the last 10 seasons, and last season by 33 points. Over the last 10 seasons that works out to 77.9 points a season for Brugge and 62.2 for Anderlecht. If that pace holds (the dotted lines), Brugge go top in 2035/36. Maybe sooner the way it's trending? Method: all results from 1895 to 2026. That covers every top-flight match, including the (in)famous playoffs. Points are counted as they were awarded at the time, so 2 for a win up to 1994/95. Every match counts in full, so the playoff halving of regular-season points isn't applied. "Now" means 2026/27 through matchday 9. Standard are on there too for reference. How do non-Belgian fans look at this. If someone were to ask what's the biggest Belgian club would you still say Anderlecht or it's starting to switch towards Club Brugge? submitted by /u/jotabm [link] [comments]
