GiriSeveral low-lying areas in Vijayawada have been inundated as incessant rain lashed the city from midnight on Wednesday due to Cyclone Arnab's impact.Waterlogging was reported at the Road Under Bridge near the Pandit Nehru Bus Station, Rythu Bazaar near Patamata, and a few low-lying areas of the city. Between 8.30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, various parts of the city reported around 50 mm of rainfall.The district, as a whole, received 1,104 mm from Tuesday till 5 p.m. on Wednesday, while the city received around 100 mm of rainfall on these two days.In the aftermath of the rains, NTR District Collector G. RAODuring a teleconference with Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner Dhyanachandra H.M., District Panchayat Officer (DPO), District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), and others, the Collector instructed them to complete all sanitation works by Thursday evening.Immediate measures must be taken to sprinkle bleaching powder in areas where water has stagnated, he said, adding that municipalities and village authorities should conduct fogging operations to control mosquitoes.
