I am new grad worked in the ER for 1 full year. I got a full orientation and my orientation was extended x2 weeks and I was grateful for it. After orientation I hadn’t seen a plethora of things : my own codes, sedations, critical things titrating multiple drips, but I asked a lot of questions and learned a lot. I had picked up and OT shift and went in and 1 hr in I’m taking over a critical zone and I’m given a patient and the patient was having a sedation done. I mentioned to charge, educator, management, my peers, my preceptor that i was uncomfortable doing them and that I didn’t want to but they said it was a learning opportunity (this is a clique based hospital and I wasn’t a favorite) so, the educator helped me through but they weren’t helping me they just observed me and the charting and checklist was absurd so I’m learning as I go and things are moving way too fast and they’re charting on my account and they are getting irritated with me and I can’t see infront of my screen and now they said draw up 2.9 I drew it up (I did 3 things NOT to draw it up) I handed it to the provider, handed it to the educator, and handed it to the PA no one took it - I then, drew up what they said and and then they said “2.9” I drew that up again and they realized they had messed up and said “I said 0.29” so I drew that up and the educator went telling the whole unit and then, told the don and the manager and I was sent home and suspended for it & told it’s reportable to the bon & I used my union ect. Long story long outside of 1. Never ever drawing up a medication when I can’t see the order and 2. Drawing up a medication I’m not permitted to even though I was forced to bc no one would take the vial and the doctor handed it back and said “this is usually a nurses task” but per the sheet 1. RN isn’t permitted to administer and 2. I had to chart q. 5 vitals and rass and aldriet score - I was put in such bad circumstances and I just wanted to observe it the first time so I could do it with someone after it was frustrating I’m angry about the situation, with myself, and I am really in a low place, but I just wanted to know if anyone is willing to tell me what I did wrong. submitted by /u/bookiebookersonny [link] [comments]
