Hi. I really hope this kind of post is acceptable for this thread.

Wait 5 sec.

Hi. I’m Lindsey. I’m 30 years old and I really want to get into nursing. I want to do something that makes me feel fulfilled and where I can make a difference for someone having their worst day. Unfortunately, I was an addict through my 20’s. First it was alcohol and then it was street fentanyl. I have fought and struggled to defeat my addiction while constantly failing until I discovered MAT. I’m currently a methadone patient and have been for the last 2 years. I want to taper off it because I don’t want to be dependent on something forever, but also because I was told I couldn’t pursue nursing until I was off methadone completely. That being said…tapering off methadone is probably going to take me almost 2 years or so. I just want to ask, do you all think a previous addict could swing it as a nurse? Do you know think the temptation would be too much? Or do you think my experience would make me a better nurse? Or something in the middle or the complete opposite? Please be kind. submitted by /u/Secret_Wish1826 [link] [comments]
