Hey y'all, I made a program to view 3D models really fast and easily. I kept running into this issue where it was a pain to look at several models at the same time and all the other programs were super slow, so I just built my own 😁. The whole point was to make it as fast and lightweight as possible. I actually shelved this project last year 'cause I ran out of time. Back then, I was basically gutting Blender just to get it to load models without all the other heavy, unnecessary stuff that slowed it down when you were just browsing around for one. This time around, I changed my approach and built something from scratch inspired by Blender. I mostly used Rust and Three.js. I know web environments might sound slow, but nowadays they talk directly to APIs and the Windows core, so it runs exactly like a native Windows app. The app is pretty lightweight—it weighs in at under 10MB—and it's still in beta. I'm finishing up the UI right now. I was gonna throw it up on Itch.io, but it got full of bugs when I changed up some of the design 🥲 For now, I'm just putting up the logo 'cause the screenshots I have look pretty ugly right now (the logo is AI-generated because I didn't have time to make one and it was mandatory for Windows to compile the app) Please tell me I'm not the only crazy guy out here who needs a fast app to view models, don't let me find out I just wasted a whole month of development 😅. No, seriously though, I'd really love to know if anyone else actually finds this useful submitted by /u/_Xoxos_ to r/godot [link] [comments]
