I’m the maker of RepoRun. It’s a free, open-source desktop app for the gap between finding an interesting repo and figuring out why it won’t start on your laptop. Paste a public GitHub or GitLab link. It reads supported requirement files, compares them with your installed tools, and shows missing dependencies or version mismatches. You review the actual command before an install or launch runs. Example: a project needs Python below 3.13, but your machine has 3.13. Instead of discovering that halfway through setup, the check can flag the mismatch first. Important limits: it isn’t a sandbox or a guarantee that arbitrary code is safe. Private repos, credentials and undocumented setup steps aren’t covered. Only run projects you trust. It’s available for Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows x64. Google sign-in is required for repository checks; the Windows preview is not code-signed yet. Download, source and current limitations: https://reporun.app If you try it on a public repo, what did the report miss or explain badly? A repo link and the confusing step would be particularly useful feedback—please don’t share secrets or private logs. Disclosure: I built this; AI helped prepare this post. submitted by /u/mananshah6 [link] [comments]
