My cousin died on October 15th. Yesterday I was also thinking about my grandma. I'm 54 and I still miss her. I wanted to light a candle for them, and that's how this started. **Lights of Love:** lightsof.love How it works: - Pick a place on the globe (city, region or country) and light a candle. - If you want, leave a few words: up to 280 characters, in any language. - Your light shines for 24 hours. Then it's permanently deleted. - There's no account, no name, no ads and no tracking cookies. Things I cared about: - If a dedication suggests someone might be thinking about ending their life, the words stay private and the site shows support numbers for their region. I added helplines for 57 countries, checked every one myself, and will re-verify them every 3 months. - Dedications are screened before they appear, by an AI check plus a daily human review, so it stays a gentle space. - No IP addresses are stored, and candle locations are blurred. - You can opt in to have your light shine again on December 13, a yearly relight night. - The globe keeps a few lights of its own so it never feels empty. They're labelled as such. It's a personal, non-commercial project. There's nothing to sell. Feedback I'd love: - Does it feel respectful, or does anything feel off? - How does it work on your phone? - Is lighting a candle obvious the first time? If you've lost someone, feel free to light one. Ps. This is maybe just for me coping with the loss of my sister-like cousin. submitted by /u/Flat_Barber_1602 [link] [comments]
