Self-taught sewist here. I built an app so I could see a garment before cutting into expensive fabric

Wait 5 sec.

I taught myself to sew with persistence and a healthy jealousy fueled from watching TikTok videos. I mostly sew for my daughter, usually from vintage patterns, and my biggest problem was never the sewing. It was that I couldn't picture the finished thing, especially once I started changing the pattern. If I want to lower the neckline, lengthen the bodice, take the sleeve from a different pattern… I had no idea what I was about to make. I wasn't going to cut $30-a-yard fabric for a dress I couldn't picture. So a lot of projects never started, and a lot of others got abandoned halfway. So I built Sewist Studio. A digital sewing room app for project and notion organization, with some fancy AI powered features. What I find most useful: three photos I already had (a picture of my child, a pattern envelope and the fabric from my stash) turned into a finished dress on her. I haven't cut a single piece of that fabric yet. The other parts, features I haven’t seen anywhere else… Move it: turns the preview into a short video so you can see how the skirt swings and drapes. Wear it: you film about 5 seconds of someone moving in whatever they have on, and it dresses them in the garment you're planning while keeping their real movement. The first test was my daughter twirling in our kitchen in a dress that doesn't exist yet. Wren: a sewing coach you can talk to mid-project. She has your project and stash open and can look at your fabric through your phone camera. I built her because at 10pm, when the instructions say "understitch the facing" with one tiny drawing, there's nobody to ask. There's also the organizing side: photograph your stash and it catalogs patterns, fabric and notions (and flags it when you're about to buy the same print twice, which I did more than once), plus a project board and an embroidery workspace that opens .PES/.DST files.
