Hey everyone, I'm back again! A few months ago, I made a post soliciting some artists for a digital deck-building game, and I'm now ready to start looking at commissioning multiple artists in earnest for a Kickstarter I hope to launch in the next ~3-6mo (prelaunch first, but I need to start compiling some assets here). The game's world is what I like to call a "Cyber-Medievalpunk" (or "Sci-Final Fantasy", if that's easier to understand): a highly futuristic society where gunpowder was never invented, so soldiers are knights who fight with advanced armor and weapons (swords, shields, etc). I hope to have the art direction/style heavily modeled after Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (see pic above/the anime). If you've drawn in this style or feel confident in being able to draw like it, please respond! This deck-building game has two phases: a "PvE" phase, where you walk around a board and battle/recruit cards to your team, fight NPCs, interact with board spaces, etc (imagine if Mario Party was on a 9x9 grid with an isometric camera like Hades). Interspersed between these PvE rounds are PvP rounds, which are more standard card game matches (think like Magic, Pokemon, Hearthstone, etc). I'm working towards launching a Kickstarter, where I hope to have a short (~1m) sizzle reel showcasing various clips of the game. I've been in contact with various artists and am trying to source quotes so I can make the best decision on who to partner with. In the event I think we'd be a good fit for each other, I have mood boards, world building/lore, character ideas, etc, to help you get a better understanding of my vision and how I want you to help me bring it to life. For now, I still need: - A card art illustrator, one who specializes in drawing cyberpunk/futuristic machines/vehicles to draw some card art/boss art portraits (something similar to Hearthstone, a smaller frame and likely not full character designs). Given that this world blends both the highly-futuristic and the Medieval, the best way I can describe these machines/vehicles is as if you were looking at Medieval cavalry and siege instruments and adapted them to a time in the distant future. Also, this wouldn't be a cyberpunk world if it didn't have a Spidertank, so, bonus points if you've drawn something like that. I'm currently looking for probably just a small handful of different designs, something to the effect of 3-5 creations. I have ideas for some of these, but I also want to give you the "rules" of the world and give you the freedom to create, to help me bring this world to life. I hope to have a character design for the main character/mascot of my game completed soon, which would hopefully provide the blueprint for the art direction to work off of, but I still want to give you the freedom to design things you feel belong in this world. The goal is to be collaborative! - An animator with experience working on animations for card/tabletop games, specifically animating card art, as well as drawing/playing cards, card effects activating, triggering spaces on a board, general effects, etc. The idea would be to animate one boss card art in particular, and then provide animations for a few quick ~5s clips of drawing or playing a card, an effect or two triggering, a board space or two triggering, an event card activating, etc. All pretty short snippets and not all of these have to be grandiose animations either. Budget & ownership: - I would say that I don't necessarily have a price in mind, as I'm trying to source quotes on this stuff. That said, I would say that I'm looking to spend around ~$200-250 max/card art (these are general rates I have found for some character card artists I've spoken with so my only baseline for this), and for the animator, I guess I'd say... a budget max of around $500, but that's also subject to change because I don't really have a frame of reference for this. Again, this is all for a ~1m long sizzle reel to start, so I'm hoping to keep it relatively cost controlled while also not trying to be a cheapskate and am open to discussing pricing with someone if I feel we'd be a good fit. - As I am putting these into a Kickstarter with the hope of eventually monetizing my game, I would also need full ownership of any assets generated. Whatever that entails/contracts need to be signed, I'm fine with that, but that is a non-negotiable aspect of this. To reiterate, I'm looking for all of this done in the art style of Edgerunners: exaggerated, action-packed, high-energy, vibrant colors, etc. While this would just be for the Kickstarter for now, if it's successful, the hope would be to collaborate in a more long-term partnership (perhaps even a permanent one - fingers crossed). Please reply here or DM with your portfolios if you think you're a good fit for this, looking forward to seeing your work!
